Welcome, adults!
Have you ever heard someone say, “My parents made me stick with piano lessons and I’ve regretted it all my life?”
Me neither! What I so often hear from adults is the reverse: “I wish my parents would have made me stick with lessons.”
The great news is, it’s not too late to start! I am always thrilled at the opportunity to share the joy of music with another adult. Adults have many advantages over children in learning something new, such as: longer attention spans, the art of discipline, knowing that hard work pays off, advanced reading skills, a basic knowledge of different genres of music, and more. I encourage any adult reading this to consider beginner lessons.
You can do it!
Objectives: Before beginning lessons, we would sit down and talk about what your goals are. Are you hoping to become proficient enough to play for your enjoyment at home? I love it. Do you want to be able to play hymns for your local church? Great! Would you like to become a piano virtuoso? Well, we'd better get started! The point is, I'll tailor lessons to what you're hoping to accomplish, and together, we'll get there.
Session lengths: Private piano lessons are offered in 30-minute sessions for beginners. We will transition to 45-minute sessions as you progress to Intermediate and Advanced skill levels.
Practice expectations: A piano at home is, of course, necessary. An acoustic piano is preferred, but if you do not have one, an electronic keyboard with weighted keys is fine. You'll be expected to practice as often as you need to in order to make continual improvement between each lesson. As an adult, you are responsible for and capable of determining how often that is. I promise I will help you look forward to practicing. I'll teach you how to practice efficiently, with purpose, enjoyment, and great results.
